Heroes, we’re proud to announce three all-new Laser Sword powers are live – combine your scientific brilliance with swordplay, shredding your enemies with Particle damage and Plasma Burns!
The Laser Sword powers are all part of the Power Armor powerset. As they aren’t part of an Archetype, they can be accessed by Freeform characters – you can either sign up for a Gold subscription, or pick up a Freeform character slot.
These powers are built around a couple essential pieces: the Plasma Burn debuff, and the Unified Theory buff. Plasma Burn deals damage over ten seconds. Unified Theory increases your Particle damage, boosting the rest of your Laser Sword powers, and can be consumed for other effects.
The full list of Laser Sword powers is below; new powers are highlighted.
Laser Edge: Energy builder.
Laser Sword: Raw damage, applies Plasma Burn (DoT).
Particle Accelerator: Applies one stack of Accelerator (doesn’t stack multiple times).
Unified Theory: Super-long charge up, unless you have Accelerator. Decent damage, and gives you stacks of Unified Theory. Single target.
Particle Smash: Short-ranged, AoE. Consumes Unified Theory to generate more Plasma Burn DoTs on enemies; refreshes existing Plasma Burn on enemies.
Lightwave Slash: Applies Plasma Burn to unburnt targets very close by.
Against single targets, especially supervillains, you’ll probably want to work on building up your Unified Theory to three stacks – giving you a flat +30% to Particle damage. Alternate between Particle Accelerator and Unified Theory. Once you’ve got three stacks, you can start spamming combos like Laser Sword: With the bonus damage, they’ll hit pretty hard.
If you’re more interested in stacking the Plasma Burn DoT, though, you’ll want to work with the Lightwave Slash + Particle Smash combo. With Lighthwave Slash, you can throw down Plasma Burns on a few tightly-packed enemies; follow up with Particle Smash to refresh the Burn.
Plasma Burn has a 10-second duration, so if you get the timing down, you can sprinkle in Unified Theory, to increase the number of Plasma Burn stacks you can inflict with Particle Smash, and Particle Accelerator to speed up Unified Theory. Alternatively, you can build up Unified Theory stacks to increase the Particle damage from your DoTs, relying on Lightwave Slash instead of Particle Smash.
This is all live right now, along with the FATAL ERR0R finale – time for some heroism!
